Suggestion: Disallow Signature Pictures.

Some of us (not me) have low bandwidth connections. Some pictures takes ages to load. Some pictures take up many resources on some peoples systems.
There are several reasons to disallow signature pics. I myself find it very irritating when I'm reading a topic but my browser has to load a bunch of pics making the thread jump all over. Pictures I don't necessarily have to see to understand a topic.

Can we adjust the settings to not allow these pictures? People can keep there signatures, but just write something catchy in.

What are your thoughts......?

Well, Rich, bandwidth isn't a problem in the Netherlands. Other countries though, including the US, lots of people are on low bandwidth connections. When having many pictures on a page which is intended for text/discussion, it can take a long time for the page to load. And since most browsers do not reserve the space before it starts to load the page, the page will jump all over.
Another thing is when people host their pictures at slow servers. The browser will keep on loading a picture it can hardly reach, thus slowing itself down.

On the bigger forums I regularly attend, pictures aren't allowed in signatures, severly decreasing load times.

And for myself; I find pictures distracting on a forum (when they're not needed in a topic).

I agree totally with you mate, they are unnecessary and can be a distraction. Good point well made

I'm in 21. century yet have smallband here on New Zealand.

At home, my connection is ok but that doesn't mean I want to see hundreds of useless pictures breaking into the text I want to read.

lol i refrain from siggs as they cuase page lag and break up th text i vote to disallow

I couldn't find a way to block his sigs, so I blocked out his entire account.

Well, while bandwidth have raised many times in last few years, screen sizes have not risen as fast ... so even if the picture loads fast, it still is intrusive

I guess small nonanimated pic in signature is fine ... once someone uses picture too large or animated, it gets adblocked pretty soon

there's nothing wrong with a small signature, but it's a fact that big signatures ruin the page. You only see signatures and not what's being posted.

So your valuable post can be neglected, even if it has some important information in it.

for folks on low speed connections or low bandwidth, there are sometimes switches somewhere on forums or web pages for simply turning off pictures (text only) if you dont want them. i think firefox also has an add-on for disallowing some picture types or possibly making them higher compression. there are also 'accellerators on some isp's which help speed things up. i know, because my dad is on a very slow dialup and i put an accelerator on his machine to speed things up.

i bump this one especially for leafs so my poor download rate doesnt havte toload girls with dicks
